Image Training
Ryu, Kyoung-woo (2000/10/23) / Recommend: 0
Here are some easy image training methods for beginners. Generally, beginners have difficulty in correcting their own postures. It's because they are not able to analyze what is wrong. Look at others; they are doing great; I want to be like that. (this is often the case, you know.)

Image training. Until early 80's Korea was strikingly lacking in scientific sports facilities. 86 Seoul Asian Games brought a lot of changes, though. Athletes can't keep on training any more under such poor circumstances.

At such a moment, a method to improve ability as quickly as possible is image training that is described below. To put it easily, it's picturing in your mind. I mean, put good postures in your mind that you saw your mates or players (personal icons) take and think about them all the time.

At this moment, you don't try yourself, but only think about it. Think over and over again, and then fit yourself, instead of other people, in the picture you have put into your mind. Then imagine that you achieve the techniques you wanted to.

One week and two weeks pass by. Then you try yourself. Well, it doesn't work out yet, though. But don't stop there, or you will never enjoy the effect of the training. Now it's getting started. Remember how you took postures in question. Then take your time and think deeply about them.

What am I doing? Not working out, but thinking only? Keep thinking and your body practically gets adjusted to the way of thinking. Try once again a few days later. Probably you will feel a great change.

Yet it's not easy to digest motions you wanted to. Don't bother with hard training, but pile up good images again. Try to practice a few more days later. Once you digest techniques in question to some degree, you start to enter into real practicing from the moment.

From now on, you may take hard training. If you keep hard-training with wrong postures, you may be told that you are doing poor. Generally speaking, it takes one and a half month to take the whole image training.

After the training, your postures become relatively stable. It takes about a month for a player to acquire one technique. There may be differences like 2 weeks or so among individuals, but the image training is recommendable for beginners, cause it can create relatively stable effects without great hardships.

It doesn't require of any special equipment or instructor's company; isn't it the best training method? In fact, it is one of the frequently used training methods in Taeneung Athletic Village. Why don't you try it?

Caution? Of course, there are some. Hahaha!! Taekwondo techniques consist of straight and rotary motions. All techniques can be reduced to these two basics. I'm going to put an article about straight and rotary motions next time.
